Warre’s Vintage Port 1980

Outer quote mark The 1980 Vintage Port is another sensational release in the Vineyard Brands portfolio. A full-bodied, concentrated, yet also elegant Port, it gives up classic notes of tobacco leaf, olive, cedary spice, and loads of ripe black fruits. While it’s fully mature and I suspect drinking at point, it’s perfectly balanced and just glides across the palate. There’s no need to delay gratification, but it’s going to keep for another 10-15 years as well. Inner quote mark

Outer quote mark This house makes rather restrained yet rich, flavorful vintage port and a very good tawny called Nimrod. Their vintage ports seem slow to develop, and while they never quite have the voluptuous richness of a Dow, Graham, or Fonseca, they have a unique mineral-scented character that gives them their own complexity and style. The 1980 is backward, firm, and has yet to reveal its true personality. (RP) Inner quote mark (1/1989)

Outer quote mark A solid vintage Port from an unsung vintage. Medium ruby, with clean perfume and black cherry aromas, full-bodied, with silky, sweet concentrated berry flavors and a medium finish. (JS, Web-1989) Inner quote mark
