Craiglee Shiraz 2016
‘Epic Shiraz showcasing the Australiana of the variety at its peak. Dark fruits, lavish spice, herbal-brambly notes, faintest whiffs of Aussie bush in eucalyptus and pepperberry and sweet earth, maybe some game meat (kangaroo?!) in the mix. A good, chunky weave of tannin through dark, brooding sluice of liquid berry and more spice, more herbal notes, more pepper, drawls out through a grippy, crushed rock and puckering finish. Gnarled and legit, wild in a way but has poise. Fantastic, again. Drink: 2022-2035+. ‘

‘Owner/winemaker Pat Carmody in fine touch here with the grape that made his and Craiglee’s reputation. Signature black pepper with wild thyme, sage, acacia and ripe, sweet black berries. Launches into a savoury world of game and earth and background notes of hoisin and undergrowth. Quite the dark and brooding kind of cool climate shiraz. A stunner. Drink by 2040.
